What Does The “Merging Traffic Sign” Mean?

A merging Traffic Sign (or Merge Sign) warns drivers that they are approaching a point where another traffic lane joins the one they are using, and traffic may merge into their lane. 

Type, Colors, and Shape 

Merging Traffic Sign is a regulatory sign that comes in diamond shapes with yellow background and a black arrow graphic in the middle. 

Where is the “Merging Traffic Sign” Commonly Placed?

This sign is often installed before the point where two separate traffic lanes converge into one. A merge sign is also installed at the freeway entrance ramps.

What To Do When You See A “Merging Traffic Sign”?

When approaching a Merging Traffic Sign, you should: 

• Be prepared for merging traffic come into your lane 
• Watch out for other traffic on the main roadway
• Yield to the merging traffic by moving to the left lane or slowing down.
