What is the Meaning of "Intersection Ahead Sign”?

The purpose of the Important Intersection Ahead sign is to advise motorists traveling along a significant high-speed, rural highway of the unusual operational, geometric, or environmental conditions at the upcoming major junction.

Type, Colors, and Shape 

The Intersection Ahead sign has a black warning message on a yellow background. The only size of the sign is 1200 mm x 1200 mm.

What to Do When You See An “Intersection Ahead Sign”?

The sign advises motorists to exercise caution when approaching a major junction such as:

  • Slow down
  • Watch for unusual crossing or merging maneuvers

It is not intended to warn the drivers of a stop condition ahead.

The Important Intersection Ahead sign should only be considered along a major highway in advance of a major junction of two provincial highways. 

Where Is the “Intersection Ahead Sign” Commonly Placed?

  • The Important Intersection Ahead signs should be placed a distance of 250 to 350m in advance of an important intersection.
  • Signs should be installed for both directions of travel. 
  • Signs are installed on the right-hand side of the major highway in advance of the Junction sign assembly.
  • On divided highways, an additional sign should be installed on the left-hand side of the roadway

  • The Intersection Ahead sign with a black warning message on a yellow background advises motorists traveling along an important upcoming major junction.
  • Usually located at 200-350m from the important intersection.
